Links to stories should directly and unambiguously open that story
Direct links to stories should 1) show the story (didn't work for icebox stories) and 2) open up that story so I can pick it out of the list (else how do I know what story it was if someone emailed it?)

Inappropriate?We are planning to create a new lightweight story view page that will resolve issues you mentioned. The new lightweight story view made will also make link sharing more efficient.
