Is there a way to change iteration length for just one iteration within a release?
Is there a way to change iteration length for just part of a release?
We run two week sprints but decided to run a one week sprint before upcoming holiday. We will switch back to the two week sprints after this one week sprint.
I saw that you can switch the iteration length, but that will affect all sprints. Changing team strength will affect the average velocity. Our iteration dates will be off once I reset back two the two week sprints.
Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. BTW, I enjoy using Pivotal Tracker. Great product. - Ilio

Inappropriate?Currently there is not a way to change the iteration length for just one sprint. You can set a team strength of 50% (assuming two iterations and one for the holidays) for the iteration that spans over the holidays. This will keep your average velocity in line with past sprints. For example, lets say your teams average velocity 20. If you set team strength of 50%, your team would only be expected to do 10 points of work during that iteration to maintain an average velocity of 20.
hope this helps,

Inappropriate?Hi Mark.
I appreciate your response.
We're going from a two week iteration, to a single one week iteration and then back to two week iterations. Although we don't like to change our iteration lengths, we did this so we could have the entire team involved in planning before the holidays. Our iteration dates will be off if we just allocate to a team strength of 50% but keep the iteration length two weeks.
I understand wanting to temporarily switch the iteration length is an edge case. As a work around, I'll change the project to a one week iteration length and know when sprints are supposed to be two weeks versus one.
Thanks again. -
Inappropriate?I don't think this is an edge case. We've had this issue come up twice in the last few months, once for Thanksgiving and once for Christmas/New Year. We switched from a two-week to a three-week iteration to handle the holidays and it worked quite well. I can think of a variety of situations where iteration length might change. It would be great if there were a way to override the automatic determination of iteration start/end for individual sprints and not have to change the iteration length setting for the project as a whole.

Inappropriate? We're working on making it possible to override the length of a specific iteration, and expect to have this feature available within the next few weeks.

Inappropriate?Sorry we forgot to update this topic, but the good news is that it's already implemented! See Is it possible to change the length of a single iteration? more details.

Inappropriate?Yep, noticed it while toying with PT the other night. Thanks for adding that feature.
I’m thankful
