I want to see my release!
Ok. I dont know if its me, but I just dont get it. I know this is a restricted agile tool but let me know can i do the following. and how.
- I want to have each release (iteration) to a specific time period.
- I want my releases to appear as the real releases and show me the points covered within the release stories that i have added.
- I want to be able to see my current release in the current panel. that is the stories that belong to the release within my last release story and next release story.
I love the simplicity of the tool but the restrictions are starting to be really frustrating.

Inappropriate?Hiraash, to your first point, iterations can be 1, 2, 3, or 4 weeks long and can start on any given day of the week, but Tracker assumes that you have consistent iteration lengths and that the iterations always begin on the same day of the week.
On your second point, if you want to put more stories in an iteration than Tracker thinks you can finish, you can enable the Commit Mode in the Project Settings. You can then add as many stories to the current iteration as you like.
I'm not sure I understand your third issue. The Current panel is by definition the stories in the current iteration. If you enable the commit mode, you can override Tracker's automatic pushing and pulling of stories in and out of the Current panel and use Tracker in a bit more Scrum-ish way, if that's your intent.
If I haven't addressed your concerns, please let me know. I feel as though I may have misunderstood a few of your thoughts.
I’m hopeful

Sean, Thanks for your response. What i'm expecting is a bit more customized version of tracker, which i want to know if you guys allow now or even in the near future. Let me try to be more specific about what i want.
- Is there a way i can specify each iteration to a different time period and starting from a different date. first iteration from monday 3 weeks, second from wed 2 weeks and so on. I understand how this works now.
- I am using commit mode. What i want is to see the points under each release on the release bar/story. our releases are very short and agile. So i would love to see the number of total points and points completed under each release.
- When releases are in between iterations. part of the release is in the Done panel and part in current and part in backlog. is there a way i can get the stories within 2 release stories to stick in the current panel? so it would seem like the current release is in the current panel rather than the current iteration
- One more concern on searching and filtering. the search now is quite simple. where can i get a list of instructions on how to use the search? ex find all bugs owned by X. find all stories requested by Y that are older than some day.
I understand that you may not have most of what i have requested, but anything that may help me will be appreciated. Let us know about the future developments on these lines as well
thanks! -
Inappropriate?Hiraash, there is currently no way to specify individually custom iteration lengths, and it's not on the feature roadmap as far as I'm aware.
We don't summarize points by release, only by iteration. That's an interesting suggestion and I would encourage you to submit it as a distinct GetSatisfaction idea so we can see how the rest of the Tracker community feels about it.
As for displaying more by release than by iteration, that's not currently possible and again, I'm not aware of short-term plans for that to change. I know it's not ideal, but many people find labels a usable workaround for situations like this. You could label each story in a release with a particular label, and then view a saved search for that label. That would give you a panel with the implicit release-based view, regardless of what was in the Current panel, which will always remain tied to the iteration, not the release.
Search is quite simple now, although you can chain items. It's very analogous to the Gmail search. Your first example would be "type:Bug owner:Hiraash", for instance. There is no date-based searching yet, so your second example is not currently possible. Help, a link in the upper-right nav, has a short description of the terms: http://www.pivotaltracker.com/help#ho...

Sean, Thanks for the prompt and detailed response.
I sure will make the suggestion on summarizing points by releases.
I like your idea of labeling to identify the release. It think this would help us improve.
Thanks for a great product!
