Groups sounds great as long as it doesn't clutter up the interface or make me jump through hoops if I don't even use them.
I think of the groups as "Epics". I use them as well but only before they are broken down into stories. Once we get to that stage the epic isn't really important unless the team needs the higher level view of what is trying to be accomplished. I think there are many ways of achieving this, so the implementation has to be carefully thought out.

I love how integrations creates another "icebox" if you will from which we can pull stories. We are working on the same project but with several teams so we have a higher level pivotal project and multiple team backlogs. I just realized the same way you do integrations could be applied to pivotal tracker itself so I could pull stories from the top level backlog into a teams backlog and then see it updated as it is completed.
Seems like a trivial change with the work you have done so far and it would be amazing for so many people.-
