I have the same concerns. Even writing a monitoring system around this seems like more work that I'd like to go through -- auto-cap just for incoming would be nice.

This is *exactly* what I'm looking for. In python even! I don't understand Twilio enough to contribute remaining verbs yet though, so it doesn't actually help yet. If I can I'll contribute back once I've got things working so we can use it for ongoing tests.

The plot thickens!

It shows them all going out. It actually looks like an incoming message that was sent only once was received many multiple times so the outgoing replies were correct based on the number of inbound messages shown.

Thanks John, I will send a note to investigate further.

Incoming SMS to demo script replies multiple times

I sent an SMS from my account a few days ago, fortunately to some test clients. Today, he responded to that text message and got the standard text back from Twilio as I have not yet set up an SMS responder. The problem is that he got 4 of those messages, then he sent a message "STOP" which generated another auto-reply (correctly) and then 4 more messages.
